For the next 24 hours, AOL Video is offering users on free downloadable movie. These movies usually sell for $9.99 or $19.99. We don’t have a list of all the movies, but so far AOL mentioned Spider-Man 2, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and Jack Frost as three of the thirty movies you can pick from.
The movies are in Windows Media format and would require Windows XP with Internet Explorer and Window Media 10 support. You will have 24 hours (ending 12/3 at 6 AM EST) to complete the download. Once downloaded, you can view the movie on your PC and transfer it to one other PC and two Windows Media devices.
Update: Talk about a broken service… We understand that AOL’s video plugin doesn’t work in IE7, but at least let us download the movie and watch it on our standalone Windows Media player. Considering how Microsoft pushed out IE7 (1/3 of our IE users are now IE7), AOL may be missing the boat here.

Netflix has just launched a new affordable $5.99 per month price plan which will allows you to rent one DVD at a time with no more than two rentals per month. Like Netflix‘s four other plans (ranging from $9.99 to $23.99), as a new member you receive a 2-week free trial.
If you are not familiar with Netflix, it is the world’s largest online DVD movie rental service, offering 5.7 million members access to 65,000 titles. For the early adopters out there, Netflix offers many movies in the new Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats. The concept is pretty straight forward. You add movies to your queue and you will receive these movies (up to the number you’re allowed to have at a time) via mail for free, usually within one business-day. Once you’ve watched a movie, simply reinsert it into the prepaid return envelope and mail it back. Once they’ve received your return, they will ship out a new movie. There are no due dates, no late fees, no shipping fees, and no commitments (meaning you can cancel at any time).

Looking through the list, we’re drawn to the DeLonghi Steam Cappuccino Espresso Machine for only $39.87, which would go well with the Starbucks Holiday Favorites for $18.22. You can pick up 3 PS2 or Xbox games (from a select list, of course) for only $25. As for gadgets and electronics, there’s a Visco 37″ Widescreen LCD HDTV for $798, a Philips 3 Megapixel Retro Style Ultra Digital Camera for a mere $49, a Kodak 5 Megapixel EasyShare V570 Dual Lens Digital Camera for $218, and a Garmin StreetPilot i5 GPS for $289. Online book, music, and movie store Alibris (pronounced “uh-LEE-briss”), known for bringing together the inventory of thousands of independent sellers and merchants around the world, is offering three coupons: $4 off $40, $10 off $100, and $25 off $200. All three coupons expire 11/30/06.
To get a good sense of the kind of store Alibris is, just look at the list of top used books posted on the front page. It’s an eclectic mix which includes “Confessions of an Economic Hit Man”, Steve Irwin’s “Crocodile Hunter”, and “The Chicago Manual of Style”. With low prices and used books, you could pickup all of these and a few more and then apply a coupon. Alot of books for a low price — sounds like a good deal to me.

Both cases come with en exclusive welcome letter and a serialized acrylic photo certificate. Unfortunately, neither case contains the keys to the Aston-Martin.

The 2006 Midterm Elections have finally arrived and its our day to exercise our civic duty and vote and shop. Here are our election picks (no: candidates, yes: The Candidate).
For the best news coverage (real or fake) we recommend The Daily Show’s “Midterm Midtacular” which promises to bring humor, sarcasm, and reality to this election season. I’m sure The Colbert Report will have its own unique perspective on the day’s results. If humor is not your thing, then check out the latest Political Podcasts where politicians share heir thoughts on today’s political happenings.
If you prefer the calmness and serenity of a book then settle in and enjoy the many political books that are currently on the New York Times Non-Fiction Best Sellers List. But, if you still crave some visuals, then explore alternate political realities found in The West Wing, 24, and The Candidate. For a behind the scenes look at the political process, don’t miss The War Room and Journeys With George.
